Summary:

The Outdoor Program Manager will help Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay continue the build out, design, and program development and implementation for four camp properties. Using your vision and experience in outdoor programming, the Outdoor Program Manager will create a team-oriented atmosphere that is solution driven. Must have experience with the ACA accreditation process and knowledge of outdoor education. You also must be willing to work in an outdoor camp setting with regular exposure to heat, humidity, cold and rainy weather. While serving as the Resident Camp Director for summer programming, you will exemplify the values of Girl Scouting in a hands-on leadership role that results in an exceptional camp experience. This is a full-time position with benefits. The Outdoor Program Manager will work primarily out of the Girl Scout office in Salisbury and the Camp Todd location in Denton, MD.  Occasional responsibilities at other camp properties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.        Designing, delivering, and executing camp and off-season program at Camp Todd that meets the needs and interests of girls, incorporating the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and new outdoor initiatives from GSUSA and other DE. MD. locations.

2.        Serving as Camp Todd Camp Director from June to August including overseeing the daily operation of the camp including: food service, program, business, camper and staff supervision, and healthcare.

3.        Implementing human resource policy and practices to recruit, hire, train, and supervise the seasonal camp staff.

4.        Assisting in the development of the summer program guide, evaluating current content and forms, and suggesting changes as necessary.

5.        Implementing the year-round marketing campaign and being an advocate for outdoor programs and Girl Scouting.

6.        Building and cultivating relationships with community partners and volunteers.

7.        Maintain accurate inventory of fixed assets and equipment on camp properties.

8.        Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations, health and building codes, OSHA guidelines, GSUSA safety guidelines, and ACA site standards.

9.        Ensure site security by developing emergency systems and procedures to ensure safe usage of facilities.

10.     Responsible for administering the approved budget and achieving a balanced budget.

11.     Leading an experience of exceptional customer service and deliver a seamless summer camp program.

12.     Compiling program statistics, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of program participation.

13.     Maintaining proper records and department files.

14.     Identifying new revenue streams through grant opportunities and creative mediums.

15.     Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

1.        Bachelor’s degree in related field, or a combination of non-related Bachelor’s Degree and commensurate experience.

2.        Supervisory experience in a residential summer camp setting.

3.        Current Waterfront Lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized body, or ability to become so.

4.        Prior experience in facilitating low and high ropes elements, including current ACCT Level 2 certification or willingness to become so.

5.        Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to become so.

6.        Prior experience in outdoor programming, community relations, volunteer management or other relevant areas is preferred.

7.        Proven ability to take initiative and ability to make decisions independently.

8.        Ability to use technology to drive camper, parent, and staff experiences.

9.        Honest, strong work ethic, solution oriented, and in possession of a positive attitude.

10.     Good communication skills, both written and oral.

11.     Ability to pass a criminal background check.

12.     Must be able to live on-site three months of the year.

13.     Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Working Conditions

14.     While performing the duties of this job, the employee may sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, walk at a brisk pace on uneven terrain and climb stairs. The employee will work in the outdoors, which includes regular exposure to heat and humidity during resident camp. The employee may lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be willing to live at camp when necessary which often requires working irregular or extended hours into evenings and weekends.
