Downtown Ambassador


Internship description: An exciting opportunity to work in the City’s newly created Downtown Visitor Center to develop meaningful Downtown programs and interact with visitors and businesses in Downtown Salisbury. This is a new endeavor and the City wants to make the Downtown Visitor Center a viable and exciting place to visit. Creative and downtown-centric minds encouraged to apply!

Duties: Warmly greets all visitors by creating a welcoming and friendly environment where they receive prompt, efficient, and pleasant service in person, on the phone, and via e-mail. Anticipates and responds to visitor needs by providing accurate and helpful information, tracks visitation to the Downtown Visitor Center, creates social media campaigns, assists in compiling information and creating marketing materials for Downtown, interacts and collaborates with Downtown business owners to promote businesses. Ensures Downtown always looks its best and pursues new avenues to promote the area. Ability to work a point of sale system.

Applicants with majors in journalism, communications, public relations, business, advertising and tourism management are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills, be able to work with limited direction and on multiple projects, be creative and have strong oral and written skills. Contributes positively and enthusiastically as part of a team-oriented department. Alerts supervisory staff to potential problems and possibilities. Students applying for internship may be eligible to receive college credit per their institution’s requirements. Requirements: Regular standing or walking around the Downtown area.

Hours: Flexible, but set hours, part-time, Monday thru Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
